Blazar Viper 35mm T2.1 1.5X Full Frame Anamorphic Lens

The Blazar Viper 35mm T2.1 1.5X Full Frame Anamorphic Lens is a compact manual cinema lens designed for filmmakers who want a true anamorphic widescreen look with classic character and modern optical control. Combining a constant 1.5x squeeze ratio with a fast T2.1 aperture, the Viper 35mm delivers cinematic depth, oval bokeh, refined rainbow flares, and excellent low-light performance in a highly portable form factor for handheld, gimbal, and run-and-gun productions.

Product Video

Classic Anamorphic Look with a Richer Visual Signature

Built for cinematic storytelling, the Blazar Viper 35mm produces a broad anamorphic image with natural subject placement and a strong sense of depth. Its advanced optical design creates a distinct 1.8x-style anamorphic bokeh character, giving highlights a more dramatic oval shape and adding rich texture to backgrounds. The 35mm focal length is especially versatile, wide enough for environmental framing and movement-heavy scenes, yet natural enough to keep subjects grounded and visually engaging.

Full Frame and Vista Vision Coverage

The Viper 35mm is engineered to cover full-frame and Vista Vision sensors, making it an excellent choice for modern cinema cameras and high-resolution productions. This broad image circle allows filmmakers to capture a wide cinematic field of view while maintaining the depth, separation, and immersive visual language expected from true anamorphic glass.

Fast T2.1 Aperture for Low-Light Cinematography

With its bright T2.1 aperture, the Blazar Viper 35mm performs confidently in available-light environments and controlled low-light scenes. It offers strong subject separation, smooth falloff, and the shallow depth of field filmmakers rely on for music videos, commercial work, narrative filmmaking, and atmospheric handheld cinematography. The result is a lens that feels expressive and cinematic without sacrificing production practicality.

Compact, Lightweight, and Built for Modern Workflows

One of the key strengths of the Blazar Viper 35mm is its ultra-compact and lightweight construction. At approximately 579g, it is exceptionally easy to use on gimbals, handheld rigs, compact cinema builds, and mobile shooting setups where traditional anamorphic lenses would often be too heavy or cumbersome. For solo shooters, owner-operators, and fast-paced productions, the Viper 35mm offers a rare combination of real anamorphic character and day-to-day usability.

Refined Optical Performance with Manual Cinema Precision

The Viper 35mm is designed to balance vintage-inspired cinematic rendering with the precision expected in modern productions. It delivers strong edge-to-edge sharpness, minimal focus breathing, and highly controlled barrel distortion, helping to avoid the exaggerated fishbowl effect that can make older anamorphic designs less practical. At the same time, its fully manual cinema housing and long 200° focus rotation provide the tactile control needed for deliberate, accurate focus work on set.

Soft Rainbow Flares and Character Without Chaos

Unlike overly aggressive anamorphic optics, the Blazar Viper 35mm produces soft, organic, and predictable rainbow flares that enhance the frame without overpowering it. This gives filmmakers a more versatile and polished cinematic image, one that retains character and atmosphere while remaining clean enough for professional commercial, branded, and narrative workflows.

Viper vs. Talon vs. Mantis

The Blazar Viper 35mm occupies a particularly interesting position within the Blazar anamorphic lineup. Compared to the Talon series, the Viper is the more traditional choice for filmmakers who prefer a fully manual cinema workflow. While Talon lenses focus on autofocus convenience for fast-moving productions, the Viper prioritizes tactile focus control, classic operating feel, and a more hands-on cinematic shooting experience.

Compared to the Mantis series, the Viper offers a stronger 1.5x anamorphic squeeze, creating a more pronounced widescreen look and a richer anamorphic rendering style. Mantis lenses are a great fit for users who need broader mount flexibility and a more extensive focal length lineup, but the Viper stands out for filmmakers who want a more intense anamorphic signature in a compact manual full-frame lens.

In practical terms, the Viper 35mm is the ideal middle ground for creators who want more anamorphic character than Mantis, but prefer a fully manual lens rather than the autofocus-driven Talon approach. It is especially compelling for narrative shooters, music video creators, and cinematographers who value lens character, compact size, and precise manual operation in equal measure.

EF Mount Compatibility – Please Read

PLEASE NOTE: Several Blazar lenses fitted with the official Blazar EF mount have a large rear protrusion that can prevent proper mounting on certain EF cameras and adapters. This applies to: Remus 33mm, Cato 40mm, and Mantis 25/35/50/75/100mm.

When EF Compatibility Is Unlikely (Incompatible Example)

  • Older DSLRs that use a physical mirror and/or mechanical shutter assemblies.
  • Speed boosters or EF adapters that contain optical elements, drop-in filters, or similar modules.
  • Electronic EF adapters with internal contacts, boards, or housings that extend into the mount.
  • Cameras/adapters with any parts that protrude deep inside the EF throat. If components extend past the inner mount boundary (see “Incompatible Example”), Blazar EF lenses may not seat or lock.

When EF Compatibility Is More Likely (More Compatible Example)

  • Passive (non-electronic) EF adapters with a clear, open throat.
  • Cameras/adapters that have no glass elements, drop-in filter modules, or internal parts sticking into the mount (see “More Compatible Example”).

How to Self-Check Before You Buy

  1. Review the protrusion specs: Each Blazar lens has a technical diagram listing its rear protrusion for PL and EF mounts.
  2. Compare against your camera/adapter: If your body/adapter’s maximum supported protrusion is greater than the lens protrusion, mounting should be possible.
  3. Inspect the mount cavity: Look for electronics, glass, or mechanical parts extending past the inner mount circle—these are common points of interference.

Need the Drawings?

You’ll find technical diagrams for all Blazar lenses—showing rear protrusion measurements for both PL and EF—below on this page. Use these to confirm fit with your specific EF camera or adapter.

Questions?

If you’re unsure about your setup, contact us with your camera model and (if applicable) the exact adapter brand/model. We’re happy to help verify EF compatibility before you order.
