About Better Focus®
Better Focus® was founded by Tim Dehring, a German filmmaker who always wants to improve his creativity and the way he works.
Founder
At the beginning of 2019 Tim started producing and selling mountable prisms for in-camera effects.
As he did not find a satisfying supplier of Follow Focus Gears in Europe, he started experimenting with producing them himself and ended up with really good focus gears.
Later he discovered more useful tools for filmmakers and photographers, like Pro Mist filters and the RETO 3D camera. Today Better Focus is also an authorized dealer for Blazar anamorphic lenses.

Our story
Better Focus starts in early 2019 with mountable prisms. They sit in front of the lens and create reflections, light refractions and soft blur right in the camera. The effect happens live on set and does not have to be built afterwards in post.
In the same year, Follow Focus Gears followed. Tim could not find a supplier of Follow Focus Gears in Europe that he was happy with, so he started experimenting himself. The result is a flexible gear that fits the focus ring of each lens exactly, without an overlap and without gluing or heating. It works with any follow focus system that drives a Mod 0.8 gear. Today there are matching gears for 800+ photo lenses.
In 2020, more tools followed that Tim needed himself as a filmmaker and photographer: the RETO 3D camera and camera filters such as the Pro Mist filter, which softens highlights and gives the image a cinematic look.
In 2020, “Better Focus” is registered as a trademark. Since then, the name stands for precisely fitting tools made by filmmakers for filmmakers.
In 2022, Better Focus launches its own online shop for customers in the US: www.better-focus.us. Together with a partner company in the US, there is a local warehouse, so orders ship directly within the US.
Since 2024, Better Focus has been an authorized dealer for Blazar anamorphic lenses, for example the Mantis, Cato, Viper and Remus series. The lenses ship worldwide from Germany as insured DHL parcels. Business customers in the EU get their invoice without VAT with a valid VAT ID.
